For 10+ years we’ve been helping our customers to reveal their full potential by automating business processes with the help of Atlassian products and Agile, SAFe, and ITIL frameworks. We always show Jira from the good side, but to say that it’s a universal solution out of the box that fits every company would be at least a white lie.
Jira out of the box isn’t perfect, it has both advantages and disadvantages. Still, relying on our customers’ experience we know that they’re not critical.
What are the most common Jira drawbacks?
Difficult to use
Especially for non-technical teams, which work with such software for the first time. The interface looks unclear and overmuch, so new users often need experts’ help in setting Jira up.
But as practice shows, teams with more experience of using Jira feel more confident and don’t see critical problems in the tool. For new Jira users, a couple of training sessions will be a great solution.
Low performance
While everyday work, the users notice that Jira becomes slower. Loading pages, requests handling, tickets editing and reports generating take more time. So disappointed users start using Jira more rarely or even migrate to another software.
The most common reason is when the user has too much administrator authority, and the system has to load too much data.
The first thing you need to do is to remove unwanted permissions. If the team needs a superuser with advanced permissions, it’s better to choose only one person, but not make him as administrator.
The next step is to remove settings that are no more in use and to make the process of requesting permissions more complex. You can do the same thing with unnecessary fields and workflows. Usually, a standard workflow is enough for most projects in the team.
If you suffer from low performance using Jira Cloud, we suggest migrating to your server.
Price
Jira itself is cheaper than its main competitors like ServiceNow and HP SM. But if you want to use the full Jira functionality, for example, have access to Portfolio, Service Desk, or to manage working hours in the team, you won’t manage to do it without add-ons purchase. In this case, the price per user will increase and can be more that competitors offer per seat.
Still, Jira gives you its main advantage — flexibility. It’s easy to adapt it to any business and team.
Didn’t manage to find a solution that covers your needs? We can fix it with custom add-on development.
For example, limit or broaden Jira functionality and make it user-friendly, or track users’ work log, or create a warehouse automation system, or manage marketing campaigns via social networks.
